The Feldmans, with the guidance of the Rebbe, MH"M, have opened Yeshivas Zichron Aliza Chicago in her honor. The Yeshiva hosts 11 bochurim from all over the world learning Schita & Smicha under the guidance of Rabbi Aryeh Dudowitz, Rosh Yeshiva.

Seems an artist (perhaps named "Sheitman"?) painted this .. it's for sale everywhere!! (Unfortunately with the wrong title!)

10/17/2006: We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Mr. Mike Zimmerman - father of -yebadel l'chaim toivim - R' Yale Zimmerman (Chicago). The Levaya will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Weinstein Funeral Home, 1300 W. Devon, Chicago. The Kevurah will take place at Waldheim Cemetery.

10/11/2006: Mazel Tov To Rabbi and Mrs. Levi Bukiet on the birth of a granddaughter, born to their children Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Sandhaus (Toronto).

10/10/2006: A family has been torn apart by a terrible crash on their way to spend some time on a camping site together for Chol Hamoed. The whole family was driving on the highway when the accident occurred, the father and sister were killed instantly, and the son and mother remain in critical condition. More Info Here

This will be held on Wednesday, August 9 at the Moshiach Center, for men and women, and will include a full meal. Mincha is a 6 pm, with the siyum immediately following.

02/16/06: Update on the Bnos Rabbeinu Production tonight in Crown Heights... Turnout was way better than anticipated, with the 600-seat auditorium filled to capacity. (Extra police had to be summoned due to a requirement for a certain police-to-crowd ratio.) The performance was certainly a success and was greatly enjoyed by all. Mazal tov, Bnos Rabbeinu!

With profound sadness and pain we inform you of the tragic and untimely passing of R' Berel Actipis OBM of Chicago, IL, who was killed Wednesday night in a car accident. The Levaya will take place on Friday morning at 9:30 AM at Waldheim Cemetery, 1400 S. Des Plaines, Franklin Park, IL - gate 19.

Someone also forwarded me an email response to a slide show that was posted on Chabad.org... thought it was interesting and perhaps worth passing along. You can read it here. I'm not really sure of the significance, but I'm troubled that an apparent "revisionist slideshow" (the authors words) seems to have been perpetuated by an official Chabad organization...

09/07/05: Many have noticed the uncanny parallel of the events of the Gulf Coast to those of Gush Katif. Included in that is the following:

Tonight there is yet another uncanny news item, something that would have been totally unimaginable just a few weeks ago:

"New Orleans mayor orders forced evacuations"

NEW ORLEANS - As flood waters receded inch by inch Tuesday, New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin authorized law enforcement officers and the U.S. military to force the evacuation of all residents who refuse to heed orders to leave the dark, dangerous city.

The move comes after some citizens bluntly told authorities who had come to deliver them from the flooded metropolis that they would not leave their homes and property. An estimated 10,000 residents are believed to still be in New Orleans, and some have been holed up in their homes for more than a week. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9156612/)

There is a published story about Shlomo Zalman which is based on reality but contains a number of innacuracies. Please note my response:

A mezuzah was found to have a problem (not quite the one mentioned), and was repaired. Shortly after this the doctors announced that for the first time the baby's condition was termed "stable".

The actual problem was B"H not a heart condition, nor anything else that has yet been found -- all tests, including a full body CAT scan, bacterial cultures, and virus investigations -- have B"H come back negative. They still have NO IDEA what the cause of the illness is. Although there has been some improvement in his condition, and he is still termed "stable", he is still on full life support, including respiration, and is considered "critical."

We remain focused on the positive and plan to celebrate the baby's complete recovery very soon. He is still in need of your prayers.

07/23/04: Well, I had really hoped that it would not come to this, but it has. The head of Cheder Lubavitch, Yitzchok Wolf has taken the period of the three weeks -- when the Rebbe urges increased acts of Ahavas Yisroel -- and used this time to further his goals based on Sinas Chinum. Under the ridiculous pretense that people's personal associations somehow "taint" their children, he seeks to dictate with whom the parents in his school may associate, what farbrengens and shiurim they may attend, and what shuls they may daven in. This sort of behavior has got to be stopped. How can we allow someone like this to be in charge of the chinuch of our children? (I've been told that his "reasoning" is that such associations could lead to what he considers "inappropriate actions". However, if you read the list of "conditions" he presented for us to sign, you will clearly see that any possibility of such "actions" are precluded by his conditions #5-10 -- which we readily agreed to.) For the time being I am making available here my recent communication to Yitzchok Wolf -- the two faxed letters I sent him, his written list of "conditions" for re-accepting my daughter (which we signed with some changes), and a detailed description of the changes we made and why we made them. Judge this for yourselves, and see who we're dealing with. The first letter was responded to with a brief and quite rude phone call. That call he ended by saying "When all this started I called your wife and begged her not to do this or you'd come to regret it -- and NOW YOU WILL!" The subsequent letters were completely ignored -- not even the decency of a response, one way or the other. As one final last chance, I called him today (erev Tisha B'Av) to get a response. His response was that "none of the conditions I specified are negotiable." This is our "educator" who we entrust as a model for our children??

I will very soon join with others to announce a new initiative. By refusing to re-admit my daughter and others who wished to return, Yitzchok Wolf has made a bad error in judgment. I fear that it will now be his turn to regret it.

Some people have already put a lot of effort into planning this event, but much help is needed. I urge all anash to please put aside your excuses, and participate to make this event the success that it should be in a city like Chicago.

For the record, I wish to state that I did not write nor distribute that newsletter -- I also received it in my email. 12/07/03: Mazel Tov to Mrs. Bialestock on the engagement of her daughter Merrelle to Netanel Zilberman (Kfar Chabad).

As most are aware, the final psak from the recent Din Torah has been delivered. At this point, especially as it has not yet been formally translated, we are not publishing the details. It is our fervent hope that Rabbi Moscowitz will utilize this psak to help re-bind and strengthen the Chicago community. We would also like to note that the litigants in this Din Torah (the Bassman and Blumberger families) have asked us to refrain from publishing the psak. Notwithstanding this, we will ultimately publish it as originally promised, because we believe this is the wish of the community at large. The timing will in part be decided based on the official response and implementation of its directives. Once again, we hope and pray that there will be a quick and unifying decision in this regard.

08/22/03: We wish a hearty boruch haba to Rabbi Gershom and Mrs. Sarah Francis, who have arrived in Chicago with their two children. Rabbi Francis will assume the position of acting principal and teacher in the Tzemach Tzedek School, while Sarah will assume a part-time teaching position. We wish them much hatzlocha as they help us grow our community school.

08/18/03: SNS has reported that Rabbi & Mrs. Eliezer Zalmanov of Crown Heights will IY"H be moving on Shlichus to Indiana. The Zalmanovs will be serving the Jewish communities of Munster, Hammond, and the surrounding cities. The Zalmanovs were appointed by Rabbi Avrohom Grossbaum of Indiana.

08/17/03: It has come to our attention that some individual or individuals have stuck various "Moshiach" bumper stickers and signs on public signposts along Devon in West Rogers Park. While we might agree with the sentiment of these signs, we disagree with this method of improper and illegal distribution. We will make every effort to privately identify the person(s) responsible and have them cease this sort of activity. We wish to state, however, that we obviously cannot assume any responsibility for acts that an individual does on his own. [wording updated 8/18]
